Well, we are anticipating the official opening of the summer season in Big Sky very soon beginning in June, and looking forward to it with great enthusiasm, but as anyone knows who is familiar with the area, many local restaurants use this spring quiet time to either renovate, create new menus and/or simply take a break after a long and busy ski season and take a much needed vacation! Most of them, if they did take some time are now back open with spring season hours.
One of my most favorite restaurants in Big Sky and Bozeman for that matter is the amazing Thai restaurant, The Lotus Pad! It is a very ‘petite’ space, but more than overcompensates with grand, homemade flavorful delights! I could eat there almost every night! Right now The Lotus Pad is open Wednesdays through Sundays beginning at 6pm.
Another excellent Big Sky find is Arata, the great new sushi bar and restaurant, just 2 doors down from The Lotus Pad! It has been a long time coming and now Big Sky has Arata – its very own sushi restaurant! It was well worth the wait too! They feature something unique in the way of sushi; they serve it up Hawaiian style whereby they feature special fish from the beautiful Pacific islands and their sashimi cut is slightly thicker than the more typical Japanese fare. It is a fun diversion from the more standard but always enjoyable more western cuisine! They just reopened last week, and will be serving during the spring, Wednesdays through Saturday evenings.
An old reliable standby is By Word of Mouth. They have been open all spring long, and are notorious for their quaint atmosphere and enjoyable, friendly service, not to mention extremely yummy food! Don’t forget their Tokyo Tuesdays where they are also serving up some fish in the raw – very tasty! They also offer an extremely enjoyable special infused vodka of the week (or two), and might I add it is quite the libation!
Big Sky also offers are two favorite steak restaurants (both of which are now back open as of the last 2 weeks) with American-Western type fare Choppers Bar and Grill and just a short drive away from the main entrance of Big Sky across from the Gallatin River, The Corral Bar and Grill! Both of these restaurants offer amazing steak choices and both have a super fun atmosphere to boot! Choppers of course, was created with the motorcycle enthusiast in mind, and The Corral which has been perhaps the oldest and dearest establishment in all of the Big Sky area, is the epitome of the old Montana Road House! Simply a must see and experience!
We also have a wonderful Mexican establishment, La Luna, offering special Mexican and American fare, and a fantastic breakfast and lunch restaurant offering specialties from the deep, deep south! The Blue Bird Café with amazing homemade Antebellum grits – YUM, YUM, YUM, and a quadruple YUM!!! They are also both ready and willing to assist you in satisfying your hunger cravings while enjoying the surrounding mountain activities and experiences!
